Checks on PTUK Practitioners to assure the safety of the children and yourself.
We do our utmost to assure that our Registrants are safe and effective practitioners.
They have to successfully complete training, based upon our standards of competencies, before they become Certified practitioners.
Before commencing these training courses applicants have to provide two satisfactory references, one career based and the other a personal one or current Supervisor. They have to demonstrate an ability to study at post-graduate level.
They also have to have satisfactory, current and enhanced safeguarding (DBS/CRB) checks and adequate professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
All practitioners and trainees are required to work to PTUK’s Ethical Framework and Professional Conduct procedures covering complaints.
Trainees are required to have one hour of clinical supervision for every six hours of practice. This assures the safety and quality of their clinical work. Qualified practitioners are required to have a minimum of one and a half hour of clinical supervision each month, whilst they are practising.
Qualified practitioners must have adequate professional indemnity and public liability assurance to cover financial claims for injuries and unsafe practice.
To remain on the Register
Registrants must carry out their own clinical audit procedures, which involves taking pre and post therapy measures to assess the amount of change in the client that has taken place. This data are submitted annually to PTUK for quality assurance.
At the time of annual re-registration all qualified practitioners have to supply evidence of at least 30 hours of effective continuous professional development to keep their skills up to date.
