Amanda Burns
After twelve years of working with children in a teaching role, I finally had the opportunity to follow my passion for a career in mental health when I completed my Play therapy training with PTUK. I am a fully qualified accredited play and creative arts therapist with experience of working with children in a school setting, private practice and children in residential foster care. I work with children aged between 4 and 18 with a variety of issues. I also have experience with working with neurodiversity and severe trauma. In addition to this, I also have specialist training in bereavement and have worked with children and families who have experienced the loss of a loved one. I am also a certified Autplay provider which is a specific form of play therapy designed to address the mental health needs of neurodivergent children. As well as having my own private practice, I currently work as a regional clinician for a residential foster care agency. In this role, I provide therapy for young people and I also provide consultation, supervision and advice to the staff and other therapists in how to adapt and apply trauma informed approaches. This approach is based on a dyadic developmental psychological approach and the use of PACE I have a commitment to the families and children I work with and I am an impassioned advocate for children’s mental health.
