Emma Summers
Located in the beautiful county of Somerset, I am a Certified Play Therapist offering individual play therapy session for children aged 4 to 11 years, and individual Play and Creative Arts Therapy sessions for children and young people aged from 11 to 18 years.
I am also a PTUK Trainee Play and Creative Arts Counsellor of Children and Young People.
I come from a background of working in education, both in specialist and mainstream settings. This includes seven years’ experience of working at a local Pupil Referral Unit (PRU). I have worked with children and young people with a range of difficulties including anxiety, ADHD, autism, dyslexia, global developmental delay, behavioural difficulties, sensory differences, attachment disorders and trauma.
I am passionate about helping children and young people to overcome their difficulties, so that they can reach their full potential. Within my therapy sessions, a range of toys and creative materials are available, so that clients may express their feelings through their play and creativity. Play and Creative Arts Therapies are evidenced-based interventions:
Between 77% and 84% of children show a positive change through the use of play and creative arts therapies when delivered to PTUK standards. The more severe the problem, the higher the percentage of children that show a positive change.’ (PTUK)
I offer private therapy sessions at lovely, well-equipped therapy rooms located in Queen Camel, near Yeovil (just off the A303) and in Compton Dundon, near Street.
