Mairead Bracken

I am a fully Certified and Insured Creative Arts Play Therapist. I am a
registered member with Play Therapy Ireland. I have extensive
experience working with children and teenagers for over 25 years both
in schools, and therapeutic settings.
I am passionate about the Power of Play Therapy as a Therapeutic
intervention to help children process and understand upsetting
thoughts, feelings, and big emotions. I believe when a child is offered
Special Time with a Play Therapist, a child can safely explore a wide
range of difficult issues such as: Low Self- Esteem, Anxiety, Bullying,
Parental Separation, Grief and Loss, Attachment Issues, Anger, Selective Mutism, Sickness, etc.
The Intervention is child-led which empowers the child hugely as they
play-out their emotional turmoil in their natural language that is play in
the safe presence of the Play Therapist.
I am also an accomplished musician holding an Honours Bachelor of
Arts degree in French and Music, and an Honours Bachelor of Music
degree. I use my musical ability as a tool to aid the therapeutic process
through therapeutic music and song in a non- directive modality. I have
seen first-hand how music, the universal language, helps children in
emotional difficulty to express themselves, connect in a meaningful
way, communicate creatively, and heal. I believe music is a very
powerful resource in the Playroom and can really help children to
regulate their emotions.
I am a Mum of three and I believe that the combination of Motherhood
and years of experience in nurturing roles have developed in me an
innate emotional intelligence, empathy, and ability to connect with
young people therapeutically and in a meaningful way.
